TK Park and Lampang municipality launch “Lampang Knowledge Park” under the “Living Library” concept

The official opening of the new TK Park network in Lampang was held on August 14, 2015. It was presided over by Araya Ma-Inn, Vice President of the Office of Knowledge Management and Development (OKMD) and acting director-general of Thailand Knowledge Park (TK park), Lampang governor Thanin Supasan and KittipoomNarmwong, mayor of Lampang City Municipality.

Mr. Araya said one of TK park’s key missions was to broaden opportunities to access modern learning sources that meet the interests of young and old across Thailand. In cooperation with local administrative bodies, TK park aims to create more regional branches and develop learning sources in the form of “living libraries”. The agency has signed many cooperative agreements with community learning centres and local agencies, Mr. Araya said, adding it now had 29 partners in 25 provinces.

“TK park and Lampang city have agreed to develop places of learning and creativity, such as a public library, to encourage adults and the young alike to read more,” Mr Araya said.

“Under the concept of ‘living libraries’, we plan to improve libraries in the provinces so that they attract more people and support life-long learning habits. They will provide books and e-learning tools; and hold activities designed to foster ingrained reading and learning habits.”

TK park, he said, fully supports provincial learning centresas it moves steadily ahead with its living library policy. It offers assistance with automated library and membership systems, e-learning equipment andpersonnel development.

“TK park will also run activities that promote reading and learning. That will include exhibitions of varying kinds which offer up all sorts of knowledge forthe people of Lampang and nearby areas. I really hope Lampang Knowledge Park can help to developa sustainable learning environment in this northern province and truly make it a city of reading and learning.”

Lampang Knowledge Park is housed in a two-story building located on more than one-rai of land. It offers multiple service areas such as a reference room, an IT zone, a kid’s zone, a novelty corner and a conference room.
