Edutainment activities during school holidays at TK Park
TK park and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation, plus more than 20 agencies from the public, private and civil sectors, have got their heads togetherto launch “Creative School Summer Holidays”.This novel approach to filling in vacation time encourages youngsters to spend their free hours in enjoyable ways and to develop paths that help them to contribute to society.
Araya Ma-in, Vice President of the Office of Knowledge Management and Development (OKMD) and a TK park director, said TK park provides learning space in the heart of Bangkok for children and young people. Here, he said, they can enjoy being themselves and read books or get involved in the myriad activitieson offer every summer break. Many of them take part in the “Creative School Summer Holidays” program.
Other activities are available that foster reading, art/cultural awareness, IT knowledge and life skills,as well as “TK Jang Kerd” (Rising Star) which provides opportunities for talented young students to pursue their interests and showcase their work. All these well-crafted activities have a proven edge in catering to the interests of children and young people.
“For children under seven years of age, our kids library holds ‘Fun Reading, Thinking and Inventing Activities’ every day during school holidays,” Mr. Araya said.
For the smaller kids, a key activityis “TK Summer Learning” in which a “one-day magic classroom” is held. Appealing to those aged 7 to 12, it fosters thinking while playing, and it developslearning skills through role play in which the kids act as painters, IT personnel, detectives, musicians, singers and chefs.
Other activities included “I(DEA) - I READ” which challenges teenagers from 13 to 18 to read more, while developing a “jitarsa” (volunteer mind) campaign to win prizes; and “TK Jang Kerd” (Rising Star) in which people aged 18-25 are given great opportunities to develop career interests and skills with professionals from various fields.
“TK park sees great importance in the value of using the youngsters’ spare time during school breaks. We strongly believe they can develop their potential and contribute greatly to society if they spend their holidays in a good and appropriate way,” Mr. Araya said.
